Using Graphic Novels in the School Library and Curriculum Handout

This handout is the physical example of what was covered in a group presentation with the same title. The topics that we discussed were: how graphic novels can be used in the classroom, what to look for when choosing graphic novels for a school library media collection (including a list of titles in the last two pages), some surprising research findings from children reading graphic novels, as well as how they benefit reluctant readers.

Habibi by Craig Thompson Book Talk

I presented this booktalk on the graphic novel Habibi by Craig Thompson. The target audience was for people attending a college night at their local public library and hearing about college majors that are in fine arts, such as graphic design, illustration and photography.

The reason why I chose Habibi  as my example for this program was because I felt it not only represented excellent illustration work but also because of it's subject matter. Many parents of older teens to younger adults should not dissuade their children from reading it based on, what might be considered, questionable content, but on the message the story is portraying.
